THE ZEAL OF MARTHA OR THE MEEKNESS OF MARY?
“As many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.”
Beloved, I hear your heart cry. You say you want to be led by Me, but you don’t know how. You want to have the meekness of Mary, but to your dismay, your life reflects the zeal of Martha.
Realize that I do not think as man thinks. Thus, it certainly follows that you don’t think like I do. The natural mind is enmity or hostile towards Me and the things of the Spirit. This means that you cannot figure out what I AM doing or where I AM going. If you think you can and try, it will only end in futility.
To be led by Me requires you quieting your flesh and allowing your born-again spirit to be led by Me. This takes patience. If the answers do not come when you think they should or in a way you think they should … WAIT… or you will likely go astray. For zeal without knowledge brings you into the arena of being a zealous Martha, even though your heart wants to have the meekness of a Mary. To be led by Me requires that you lay down your own ambitions and allow Me to arrange your life.
“Therefore the LORD will wait, that He may be gracious to you; And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the LORD is a God of justice; Blessed are all those who wait for Him.” (Isaiah 30:18 NKJ)
“For since the beginning of the world Men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, Nor has the eye seen any God besides You, Who acts for the one who waits for Him.” (Isaiah 64:4 NKJ)
“Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.” (Matthew 5:5 NKJ)
“For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.” (Romans 10:2 KJV)
“Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.” (Romans 8:7-8 NKJ)
“Therefore, brethren, we are debtors -- not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” (Romans 8:12-14 NKJ)
“As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a village where a woman named Martha welcomed them into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord's feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was worrying over the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, "Lord, doesn't it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me." But the Lord said to her, "My dear Martha, you are so upset over all these details! There is really only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it-- and I won't take it away from her." (Luke 10:38-42 NLT)
